  16.      (PMNS), as used by the components of the Performance Co-Pilot (PCP).

  18.      Normally ppppmmmmnnnnssssddddeeeellll operates on the default Performance Metrics Namespace
  19.      (PMNS), however if the ----nnnn option is specified an alternative namespace is
  20.      used from the file _n_a_m_e_s_p_a_c_e.

  22.      The default PMNS is found in the file /_v_a_r/_p_c_p/_p_m_n_s/_r_o_o_t unless the
  23.      environment variable PPPPMMMMNNNNSSSS____DDDDEEEEFFFFAAAAUUUULLLLTTTT is set, in which case the value is
  24.      assumed to be the pathname to the file containing the default PMNS.

  26.      The metric names to be deleted are all those for which one of the
  27.      _m_e_t_r_i_c_p_a_t_h arguments is a prefix in the PMNS, see ppppmmmmnnnnssss(4).

  29.      All of the files defining the PMNS must be located within the directory
  30.      that contains the root of the PMNS, and this would typically be
  31.      ////vvvvaaaarrrr////ppppccccpppp////ppppmmmmnnnnssss for the default PMNS, and this would typically imply
  32.      running ppppmmmmnnnnssssddddeeeellll as root.

  34.      Provided some initial integrity checks are satisfied, ppppmmmmnnnnssssddddeeeellll will update
  35.      the necessary PMNS files.  ppppmmmmnnnnssssddddeeeellll will then attempt to compile the
  36.      resultant namespace using ppppmmmmnnnnssssccccoooommmmpppp(1) - if this fails for any reason, the
  37.      original namespace is restored.  Note that any PMNS files that are no
  38.      longer referenced by the modified namespace will not be removed, even
  39.      though though their contents are not part of the new namespace.

  41.      The ----dddd option allows the resultant PMNS to optionally contain duplicate
  42.      PMIDs with different names in the PMNS.  By default this condition is
  43.      considered an error.
